News and Announcements

School Closed All Week 12/11-12/15

Message from Superintendent Cary Matsuoka:
Dear Santa Barbara Unified School District Families:
We have made the difficult decision to close Santa Barbara Unified for the entire week of December 11-15, 2017. I appreciate your continued engagement with your school community. Many of us have felt the impact of the Thomas Fire over this last week that has now advanced into Santa Barbara County. We are proud of the work of our staff and families to support emergency personnel, evacuees, students, family members, and fellow colleagues as we continue to find ways to serve one another during this time.

Following the Thomas Fire Operational community meeting held at San Marcos High School this afternoon we decided to close our schools for the remainder of this week, December 11 - 15. This is as a result of wide range of factors that affect our school community including air quality, mandatory evacuations, and developments of the Thomas Fire. We will be assessing our schools in preparation for re-opening following winter break on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

Santa Barbara Unified School District employees are asked to stay home for the remainder of the week.

As a reminder, please make sure you are ready for any emergency and register for Santa Barbara County Emergency Alerts at: www.awareandprepare.org. We will continue to share updates on our district @sbunified Facebook and Twitter social media sites. If you are unable to access internet, please call 2-1-1 for the latest information on conditions of Thomas Fire and related school updates.
